Originally established in 1903 El Rosal was one of the first Argentine vineyards to export to the rest of the world.
The bodega, as you will find it today, is a homage to the rich, traditional past of wine-making in Mendoza. Having been abandoned during the 90s, the present owners have taken consummate care and time to refurbish the bodega as true to its past glory days as is possible.
The old machines, originally shipped over from Lincoln, England, have been lovingly restored, the gigantic 400,000 litre barrels that were brought over piece-by-piece from France, before being assembled on-site nearly 100 years ago, have been carefully cleaned, and whilst this style of barrel is no longer used ….an average of 4 years now being seen as a little long for the aging process…they are still in situ for visitors to marvel at.
El Rosal started producing again in 2003 with their Cabernet Sauvignon, 2004 saw the first wine from their Syrah and Malbec varietals. The outstanding quality of all these wines is already creating demand for the 2005 vintage in Argentina and around the world.
Private Vines is pleased to announce that El Rosal has been awarded the 2005 VinAndino Silver Medal for their 2004 Vintage Syrah.
