High in the Andes, some 1600 metres above sea level, lies Cafayate in the Province of Salta. With annual production of less than 30 million kilos of grapes, Cafayate is a relatively small player on the wine map, but the quality of its wines justifies a far greater significance.
Traditionally the home of Torrontes, to white wine in Argentina what Malbec is to red wine, the vineyards now span a wide variety of grapes and styles. The region's unique climate, primarily a reflection of its height above sea-level, is creating international recognition for the region's wines.
